La Biennale di Venezia

Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara are the curators of the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of Venice Biennale 2018, which takes place from May 26th to November 25th 2018 at the Biennale’s venues of Giardini and Arsenale and in other places in town. The Biennale 2018 is titled Freespace, which represents the generosity and the sense of humanity at the core of architecture’s agenda.
The attention will be focused on the quality of the space itself.
With this theme, the Biennale Architecture 2018 will present to the public examples, proposals, elements – built or unbuilt – of works that exemplifies the essential qualities of architecture: modulation, richness and materiality of surface, the orchestration and the sequencing of movement, reaviling the embodied power and beauty of architecture.

The 71 participants will be gathered in two sections: the first, 16 participants, is titled Close Encounter, meetings with remarkable projects and will present works that originate in a reflection on wll-known projects of the past; the second, 12 participants, is titled The Practice of Teaching and it will collect works developed as part of teaching experiences.
The exhibition will include 63 national participations in the historical pavilions of Giardini, Arsenale and historical center of Venice. THere will be 6 new participants at the Biennale this year: Antigua & BVarbuda, Arabia Saudita, Guatemala, Lebanon, Pakistan and Holy See (with its own pavilion on San Giorgio Maggiore island).
The Italian pavilion at the Tese delle Vergini in Arsenale, sponsored and promoted by the Ministero dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali e del Turismo, Direzione Generale Arte e Architettura Contemporanee e Periferie Urbane, will be curated by Mario Cucinella and will be titled Arcipelago Italia.

The Italian pavilion will be located at the Tese delle Vergini in the Arsenale.

This edition will feature Collaterals events, promoted by non-profit national and international institutions, which will present their exhibitions and initiatives during the 16th Biennale of Architecture.

La Biennale di Venezia – 57th International Art Exhibition

Still a few days are missing before the grand opening of one of the most followed art exhibition in the world.
The 57th edition will be curated by Christine Macel. She will be the third woman, in the history of the Biennale, to run the famous venetian art show.

The Biennale will be open from May 13th to November 26th. All visitors can visit the international pavillions in the assigned areas for this occasion, Arsenale and Giardini.
In this edition, the participants will be one hundred and twenty, coming from fifty-one differents countries.
Antigua and Barbuda, Kiribati and Nigeria will make their own debut this year.

Christine Macel and the Chairman of the Biennale, Paolo Baratta, gave a few hints about this edition, starting from its title, “Viva Arte Viva”.
The artists will be at the center of this exhibition. Every Saturday, one artist will have lunch with the visitors, at Arsenale and Giardini, talking about art and sharing ideas.
Besides, during the exposition, visitors could to watch some videos, made by the artists, in which they will describe their work.
Another initiative is “My library”. Here, every artist will share a list of favorites books, offering a “piece of his/her interests” to the visitors.

Biennale of Venice 2017: Opening hours and prices

The Biennale opens its doors from 10am to 6pm. Until September 30th, the Biennale venue at Arsenale, will be open, fridays and saturdays, from 10am to 8pm.
Day of closure: Mondays (except May 15th, August 14th, September 4th).
Ticket offices are open from 10 am to 5.30 pm. Until September 30th, you can purchase your entry until 7.30 pm.

The regular ticket costs 25 euro and it allows one entrance to both venues, in different days or non-consecutive days.
Concessionary ticket for affiliated: 22 euro.
Over 65, militaries and Venice residents: 20 euro.
Students and Under 26: 15 euro.

The 48 hours ticket, valid 48 hours from the first validation (closure days not included), and valid for more than one entrance to both venues, are personal tickets and, in order to buy them, it will be required a valid ID card or passport.
The cost of this ticket will be 30 euro. For concessionary or students/under 26, it costs 22 euro.
