ciao 34 / 5.000 The Fabulous World of Dietmar Brixy

Dietmar Brixy, Hauptwerk Tapestry Bamboo Bubble, 2023, Öl auf Nessel, Diameter 180 cm

Inspired by Marco Polo's Il Milione, Dietmar Brixy's exhibition The Description of the World pays homage to the 700th anniversary of the death of the famous Venetian merchant and traveler in conjunction with the major documentary exhibition at Palazzo Ducale - The Worlds of Marco Polo. The Journey of a 13th-Century Venetian Merchant - on the one hand, and the 60th Venice Art Biennale - foreigners everywhere - on the other. The German artist triggers a sort of temporal parallelism by choosing to remember Marco Polo the traveler with a "reading" of the world in a contemporary key, thanks to the evocative power of the powerful colors of his works, including in his presentation the prestigious collection of the library with its ancient globes and geographical maps, together with the mural paintings of Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto and other artists of the Venetian Renaissance. The temporary exhibition, curated by Dirk Geuer, thus becomes an intriguing journey for the visitor, punctuated by intriguing kaleidoscopic compositions whose vibrant colours reveal fantastic landscapes at the centre.
