The Halberstadt. Michèle Searching for Max

Sigmund Freud | Curtesy of IKONA VENEZIA

On display at IKONA PHOTO GALLERY the photographic story of the intimate journey undertaken by Michéle Halberstadt (Paris, 1955), French writer and film producer, in search of her origins. The revelations of her discovery find their apex in the images of Max Halberstadt (1882 - 1940), one of Hamburg's best-known portrait photographers in the 1920s. The iconic portraits of his father-in-law, the neurologist Sigmund Freud, together with the Venetian and Hamburg photographs become on display and for Michèle, the narrative trace that marks the rhythm of the history of the "Halberstadt" and the memory of the great upheavals that characterized the first half of the Twentieth century.
