Ahead of the centenary of the Venice Lido airport, named after the World War I multi-decorated aviator Giovanni Nicelli and Italy's only airport until the end of the 1950s, hosts the second in a series of three exhibition events that will converge in 2026 into a single permanent exhibition in the interiors of the air terminal, recently renovated and restored to the architectural style of its origins. The exhibition, curated by Giacomo Zamprogno and Gianni De Michelis and with research by the historical committee headed by Massimo Dominelli, illustrates the period between the outbreak of World War II and the opening of Marco Polo Airport in Tessera. Through photographic documents, posters, postcards and memorabilia displayed inside the military bunker dating back to the 1930s, the exhibition is divided into three sections that narrate the historical context of reference and delve in particular into the ancient military history of this area of the Lido, from medieval installations to twentieth-century fortifications, taking the visitor on a fascinating journey that begins with the outbreak of the War, goes through the postwar period and arrives at the mythical years of La Dolce Vita.
